I found a couple of stores nearby who can fix it but before I spend 60 to 100 dollars, is there actually a fix for the fat PS3 because I really want to get GT6.

That happened to my fat one. I gave up and bought a brand new (probably stolen) one from a guy who drove a Dodge Neon.

Wow a craigslist deal that actually went well.

Yeah... he was pretty sketchy. I got a brand new PS3 out of the deal though!

Yea the only sketchier thing than that is one of the store's websites: http://www.westsideconsolerepair.com/default.html

yeah, flux, then heat gun, new thermal paste and copper shims to help even the heat out so they don't melt the solder again.
I've fixed a few, if you're keen to do it yourself it doesn't cost much and there's plenty of tutorials online. The best advice I can give you is be very careful removing the Fan's power plug, often the socket will snap off the board and it's a pain in the arse to re-solder.

Oh I tried for about a month and even used a dental heat gun but it still doesn't work. I guess Ill give it a try before sending it to a shop.

If you click the text it takes you back to flamingtext.com. SUCH GAME. MUCH FIX. WOW!

yeah some are beyond repair, I had about an 80% success rate, the only other fix is to reball which isn't worth it when PS3's are so cheap these days.

WOW. Really though, I think I may have developed acute epilepsy watching that Wii GIF.

Oh well. I either have a store that apparently sells your consoles working parts and replaces them with knockoffs or one that will GET YOU BACK IN DA GAME http://www.westsideconsolerepair.com/default.html . Hopefully it gets fixed this time.

Don't press play for the ylod video or you will become deaf... I am also managing to type this out of a seizure from being on that site.

The only reason a PS3 YLOD is because of heat. If you PS3 is left in a wide open area (like my early 40GB fatty is) it will live forever.

I did and I too have a 40gb system. The closest thing to it was a shelf about 5 feet away.

I had my big dog 60 gb lay down on me last year.
I went out and bought a call of duty bundle and sold the game so I had a bigger harddrive and a newer system.
I was sad that I couldn't play ps2 games on it anymore.
So I went out this week and bought a 60 gb ps3 for 130 bucks used from gamestop.

Oh I wanted to get a used one from gamestop but I'm afraid that it will just ylod on me. However, the reapir does come within $30 of buying a new console so I might just do that.

Well I dunno if it's because i'm a powerup member but I got a free year warranty with it.
Normally that's like 30 bucks and the 2 year is 50 bucks.
If I can find another one I may consider picking another one up because I bought this one for my dad. He's been digging on my wheel setup so that and a copy of GT5 should go wonders.

Amazingly my xbox 360 RROD yesterday. It was an older Elite model and I expected it to red ring years ago but it kept on trottin along. Sad day.
